Most of this screen is obvious. The part that is not is when editing stops being allowed, and the answer is earlier than most sellers expect.
What locks, and when
An auction's settings can change only before it starts and before anyone bids. After that you get one of three messages, and each tells you what to do instead:
This auction already has bids, so its settings are locked. This auction is live, so its settings are locked. This auction has finished. Use Relist to run it again with new settings.
So the time to get an auction right is before the first bid. Not during.
A buy-now listing is different — price and details stay editable while it is on sale, through Edit or Edit price.
Editing
Open the listing and Edit, or Edit listing. Everything the editor shows you is editable within the rules above.
Bulk edit handles several at once — Edit {n} listings — which is the tool for "put all of these up by ₹100". For dozens rather than several, export and re-import instead: how to import a lot of listings.
Photos: up to six photos per listing. If you have more than that, the extra ones are not the problem — choosing six good ones is the work. How to photograph an item.
Relisting versus duplicating
Two different buttons for two different situations, and using the wrong one is a common mistake.
Relist auction — for something that did not sell
Shows on an auction marked Unsold or Auction ended without a sale. It runs the same item again with new settings, and you get Relisted — the new auction is ready.
The item is the same item. Its history follows it.
Duplicate — for another one of the same thing
Makes a copy, named {title} (copy), as a draft for you to finish. For a second unit of something you sell repeatedly.
On a sold item this is the only route, and the app says so: This item has sold. Duplicate it to sell another one.
What to actually change on a relist
Relisting something unchanged is how an item fails four times. Three things, in this order:
1. The starting price. The most common reason an auction gets no bids is a start price that asks the room to take the first risk. Start lower than feels comfortable; the ten-second rule means the ending is decided by bidding, not by your opening number. How to price for auction.
2. The photos. If nobody bid, many people saw the thumbnail and did not open it. That is a photo problem, not a price one. A different first photo is the cheapest change available.
3. The reserve. If it failed a reserve, lower it or drop it. How to set a reserve.
And a fourth that is not a setting: where it sits in your show. An item nobody bid on at the end of a thin show is not the same item at the start of a busy one.
Stale and expiring listings
Two different clocks:
- A buy-now listing expires after 30 days.
Expires in {n}dwarns you, andRenew 30 daysresets it —{n} listings renewed for 30 days. - An auction listing that has gone 30 days without a bid is flagged as stale. Nothing is removed; it is a prompt to change something.
A stale listing is the app telling you politely that this item has been seen and ignored. Re-photograph it, re-price it, or take it to a show. Renewing it unchanged for another month is the one option that definitely does not work.
Drafts
Save draft keeps something unfinished, and drafts live under Drafts ({n}). Publish puts it on sale, and {n} listings published confirms it.
Everything from an import lands here, which is why the import can never put a mistake on sale.
Questions people ask
Can I change the price of a live auction?
No. Settings lock at the first bid and when it goes live. A buy-now price can be changed any time.
Does relisting lose the item's history?
No — it is the same item run again. Duplicating creates a separate new item.
How many times can I relist?
As many as you like. If it has failed three times, the item is not the problem — one of the three things above is.
What happens when a buy-now listing expires?
It comes off sale and can be renewed for another thirty days. Nothing is deleted.
Can I edit a listing during a live show?
Not an auction that is live or has bids. Edit the lineup instead, or let it finish and relist. How to put an item up during a show.
