A reasonable thing to ask of any new marketplace, so here is a straight answer including the part that is not settled.
What the privacy policy commits to today
While your account is open, your details are kept. When you delete your account, personal details are removed; records of orders, invoices and payouts are kept without them for as long as tax law requires.
Your data is not sold. Not to anybody, for any purpose.
It is shared only with the services that run Metzee — the database and sign-in provider, the payments provider, the live-video provider, the messaging and email providers, and the host — and only to provide their service. Each is named in the privacy policy rather than described vaguely.
And with government authorities when the law requires it.
What is not written down
A wind-down clause. The privacy policy does not say what would happen to the database if Metzee stopped operating, and it would be dishonest to pretend otherwise by paraphrasing something that is not there.
What can be said is that the obligations above are legal ones rather than courtesies, and they do not evaporate because a company stops trading — personal data cannot be sold off as an asset in India merely because it is on a server somebody else buys.
But a specific published commitment is a better thing to have than an inference, and that is a gap rather than a reassurance.
What you can do today, without asking anybody
Delete your account yourself. Settings → Security. It is a real deletion, not a flag — personal details go, and what remains is the tax record stripped of you. How to delete your account
Export what matters to you. Sellers can export the ledger and the analytics tabs as files, and those files are yours on your own device rather than on Metzee’s servers. For a store with a year of trading in it, that is twenty minutes well spent regardless of what you think about Metzee’s prospects. Can I get a yearly summary for my accountant?
Ask for a copy of your data. The privacy policy says you can, by writing to us.
If you are not satisfied with an answer about your data
You can complain to the Data Protection Board of India. That route exists independently of Metzee agreeing with you, which is the point of it. Who do I complain to about Metzee?
What you keep either way
Your buyers’ goodwill and your own records — which are not on Metzee. The followers are; the relationships are not.
Any seller with a business worth protecting should have their own list of regular buyers, their own photographs, and their own numbers, on any platform. Not as insurance against Metzee specifically, but because a store that exists only inside one app is fragile for a dozen more likely reasons than that one.
More: how to delete your account, is Metzee safe to buy from, why Metzee asks to verify your number.
