Only a buyer you have a genuine connection to. A store cannot pick a user and start writing to them.
What counts as a connection
Any one of these, and you can open a conversation:
- They have bought from you. An order, ever.
- You have talked before — an existing enquiry thread, either direction.
- They follow your store.
- They have bid on one of your items.
- There is an offer between you.
If none of those is true, the message is refused.
And one thing that ends it
If you have blocked someone, you cannot then message them. Blocking is not a one-way mute you can shout through.
Why the limit exists
Without it, any store could write to any account. That is not a theoretical problem — it is the shape of every marketplace that became unusable for buyers, and the first thing people stop trusting.
The connection test keeps the useful cases and removes the rest. A win-back message to a lapsed buyer is covered by the first rule, because they bought from you.
A buyer writing first needs no permission
That direction is how the marketplace works. Anyone can ask a store a question. The limit is only on a store starting the conversation.
What to actually send
About their order. Delayed, out of stock, a question about the address. Always fine, always welcome.
An answer to their question. Fast and specific beats polished.
Something genuinely relevant to them — a follower told about a show, a bidder told the item relisted.
What not to send
A broadcast dressed as a message. People can tell, and it is the fastest way to lose a follower.
Anything that moves the deal off Metzee. It removes the protections for both of you and is against the rules. Is Metzee safe to buy from?
A follow-up asking for a review. Ask once in the parcel if you must. Chasing by message reads as pressure and earns worse reviews than silence.
The better tools for reaching people
Followers, who opted in and get told when you go live.
A note in the parcel, which is read at the moment somebody is pleased.
A scheduled show, which people set a reminder for. How to schedule a show
