Should I put a note in the parcel?

Yes. It is the cheapest thing you can do and it shows up in reviews more than anything you buy.

Yes. A handwritten line costs nothing and is mentioned in reviews more often than packaging, speed or price.

The reason is simple: the parcel is the only moment your buyer is physically holding something you touched.

What to write

Their name, if you have it, and one sentence that could only be about this order. "Hope the blue one is what you pictured" beats any printed card.

Something about the item — how to care for it, what the mark on the base is, what it was used for.

Thanks, briefly. One line.

Thirty seconds. That is the whole investment.

What not to write

Not a printed slip with a logo. It reads as a mailing, not a note.

Not a request for a five-star review. This is the one to avoid. Asking for a specific rating reads as pressure and tends to produce worse reviews than saying nothing. How do I get buyers to leave reviews?

Not your phone number or an invitation to deal directly next time. Moving sales off Metzee removes the protections for both of you and is against the rules.

Not an apology for something they have not noticed yet. If there is a problem, say it before you post, not in the box.

What else is worth putting in

The packing slip, which Metzee generates. Per-order slips leave the prices off, so a parcel can travel as a gift without an invoice in it — worth knowing before you handwrite anything.

Care instructions, for anything that needs them.

A spare, where it costs you little — a button, a length of thread, an extra bead. Remembered far longer than it costs.

Where the effort actually belongs

In order of what buyers mention:

  1. It arrived intact. Everything else is decoration if this fails.
  2. It matched the description.
  3. It came when it was supposed to.
  4. The note.

So the note is worth doing and it is fourth. Do not let it distract from the first three. How to pack an order

For a store doing volume

Write them in a batch while you pack, not at the end. And keep them short — a long note from a store sending thirty parcels a day reads as a template, which is worse than nothing.
