Delivering electronics: courier, local or collection

The battery decides the method. Ask the courier before you promise a price.

In every other category delivery is about size, weight and fragility. Here there is a fourth question, and it has to be answered first.

The battery question

Couriers restrict lithium batteries. Some will not carry loose cells at all, some will not send them by air, some want them declared, and the rules differ between carriers and services.

Find out what yours does before you set a delivery price, because the difference comes off your own balance rather than the buyer's. How delivery is charged.

A damaged or swollen cell should not be posted at all — most carriers refuse it, and rightly.

The four options

Courier — for most devices, with the battery question settled. Your own delivery — good locally, and it lets the buyer see it working. Pickup — the honest answer for monitors, desktops and anything large. Buyer arranges — for bulky equipment.

What decides it

Size for anything with a screen, weight for anything desktop-sized, and fragility for everything. Screens are the most commonly broken thing in this category, and they need rigid protection on both faces rather than padding. Packing electronics.

When collection is the honest answer

For monitors, towers, large audio and anything with a restricted battery. Pickup terms are agreed before bidding with a collect-by window. How pickup works.

Combining wins

Small devices and accessories combine well. A console and a monitor do not. Combining is on by default and you set what each later win adds.

One thing that is not a delivery question but gets discovered at delivery

Sign out of every account and remove the device from your account before it goes. A locked device arriving is a return no packing can prevent. Selling electronics.

Questions people ask

Can I post a phone?

Generally yes, with the battery inside the device. Ask your courier.

What about a laptop?

Same question, same answer — ask first.

Is cash on delivery an option?

Only on Buy Now items where the store offers it, never on an auction win.
