Delivering an estate lot: courier, local or collection

Weigh the packed box. This is the category where that sentence saves the most money.

A lot is heavy, mixed and awkward, and the delivery decision should be made while you are packing rather than after it sells.

Weigh the packed box

Not the contents — the box, filled, taped and ready. Lots are the single most common place a seller underquotes delivery, and the difference comes off their own balance. How delivery is charged.

If the packed box is too heavy to lift comfortably, split it into two parcels or offer collection.

The four options

Courier for small and medium lots. Your own delivery locally, which many lot sellers prefer. Pickup for anything big — and for most lots this is the right answer. Buyer arranges for large volumes.

When collection is the honest answer

Frequently. A box of mixed household goods is heavy, cheap and expensive to send, which is exactly the combination where collection keeps the price sensible for both sides.

Say it in the listing and in the show. Pickup terms are agreed before bidding, with a collect-by window — 72 hours unless you set otherwise, and the store keeps a share if it is not collected: 7% by default, 20% at most. How pickup works.

Combining wins

Two lots is two boxes. Combining is on by default and you set what each later win adds, but in this category the honest figure is rarely zero.

Before any of it

Take out anything restricted and anything personal. Those should not be in the parcel at all. Prohibited items.

Questions people ask

Should I ship in the storage box it came in?

Only if it is strong enough and is not part of what you sold. Most are not.

Can I offer both courier and collection?

Yes, and for lots it is usually the right pairing.

What if the buyer cannot collect?

Then they should know before they bid, which is why the terms are agreed first.
