How to open a store on Metzee

Every step from the first tap to a store that can take money, and what each one is actually for.

Half an hour, most of which is waiting.

1. Create your account

A phone number and a code. If you already buy on Metzee you can sell from the same account.

2. Name the store

This becomes your web address, so changing it later breaks every link anyone has saved. Pick something findable and short.

3. Verification

Identity, and a payout account in the same name.

This is the step people resent, so here is the reason: a payout account nobody can prove belongs to you is exactly how money disappears from a marketplace. The check protects your buyers from an impostor and protects you from somebody redirecting your money.

What slows it down: a blurred photograph, a name on the bank account that does not match the ID, or an account in a family member's name.

4. Set up delivery — before you list anything

The most common ordering mistake. Decide what you can post, what is local only, and what has to be collected, then list.

Each listing carries its own delivery option, which is the point: a scarf and a framed piece of glass are different problems. How it all works, and when collection is the right answer.

5. Set up payouts

Bank details, in the verified name. Get this right now and you will not discover it at your first payout.

6. List something

Title in the words a buyer would search. Honest condition. Measurements. A few photographs in daylight.

Describing a flaw raises the price rather than lowering it — bidders discount for uncertainty, and naming the thing removes the uncertainty.

7. Before your first show

  • Verified
  • Payouts set
  • Delivery set
  • At least a few listings
  • Camera and light tested, on the actual phone, in the actual room

Questions people ask

What documents do I need?

Identity, and bank details matching it. Nothing exotic.

How long does verification take?

Usually quick. The delays are almost always a document that cannot be read or a name mismatch.

My verification was rejected — why?

A blurred image, a mismatched name, or an account in somebody else's name. Fix and resubmit.

Do I need a GST number?

Not to open a store. Whether you need one for your own turnover is a question for an accountant.

Can I open a store without a company?

Yes. Individuals sell here.

Can somebody help me run it?

Yes — add them to your team. Only the owner touches payouts and bank details.

Can I sell and buy with the same account?

Yes. You just cannot bid on your own items.
