Textiles survive transit well. What they do not survive is a new fold line and moisture.
Folding
Fold along the folds it already has. A new crease pressed under weight for a week can be permanent, especially on silk and especially on anything old.
For a valuable or fragile piece, roll rather than fold, around a tube, with tissue.
Moisture
Bag it. A sealed bag inside the box, because a carton absorbs damp from the air and passes it on.
Silica gel if it is going into or through a humid week. Why.
Tissue
Acid-free between layers for anything you care about, particularly where zari touches silk — metal against silk over time marks it.
The outer
A box, not a bag. A soft parcel gets compressed in transit, which is how a fold becomes permanent.
Vintage pieces
Handle along the grain, support the whole weight when moving it, and avoid pressure on old fold lines — those are where it will tear.
If a piece is fragile enough that posting is genuinely risky, say so and offer collection instead. Pickup exists for exactly this.
Questions people ask
Can I post in a courier bag?
For a sturdy cotton piece, yes. For silk, use a box.
Should I dry-clean before sending?
Only if you say what you did. Cleaning changes an old piece and buyers may have preferred it untouched.
What about perfume or storage smell?
Say it. It is a condition issue and it is noticed immediately.
