In Urdu something is on the wrong side

A known class of bug with a known cause. What it looks like, and why reporting it is the only fix.

Urdu reads right to left, and when something sits on the wrong edge of the screen it is almost always the same underlying cause. It is a real bug, it is known, and it is worth reporting each time you meet one.

What causes it

The app's layout is written mostly in direction-aware terms — "start" and "end" rather than "left" and "right" — so it flips correctly when the text direction flips.

Mostly. Where a style was written as a physical left or right instead, it does not flip. In English it looks correct; in Urdu it lands on the wrong edge.

That is the whole mechanism, and it means these bugs are individual rather than systemic: each one is a single style in a single place, invisible until somebody reading Urdu looks at that screen.

What it looks like

  • An icon on the wrong side of a label
  • A back arrow pointing the wrong way, or sitting in the wrong corner
  • Padding bunched on one edge with a gap on the other
  • A badge or count overlapping text instead of sitting beside it
  • A row of buttons in the opposite order from the rest of the app

Why reporting it matters more here than elsewhere

Because nobody else will find it. A reviewer working in English sees the screen laid out correctly. An automated check cannot tell that an arrow is on the aesthetically wrong side.

So the only way these get fixed is somebody reading Urdu noticing and saying so. If you do not report it, it stays.

How to report one usefully

A screenshot is the whole report. It shows which screen, which element and what is wrong, in a way a description cannot.

Add one line: which screen you were on. That is enough.

How to report a seller or listing — the same reporting route works for a bug; say what it is in the text.

What is not this bug

Numbers and prices reading left to right. Digits and currency are correct that way in Urdu too. ₹1,250 is not mirrored.

A seller's own text in another language. That is what they typed, not a layout problem. One screen is still in English

Text that is simply tight. Urdu renders taller than Latin script, so lines can look cramped at large text sizes without anything being on the wrong side. The text is too small to read

If a screen is unusable rather than untidy

Say that explicitly in the report. A misplaced icon is cosmetic; a bid button that overlaps the price is not, and the two deserve different urgency.

In the meantime, if something in a live show is unusable in Urdu, a maximum bid set from the item page is a way to take part without fighting the overlay. What a maximum bid is
