Two things, and the second is the one that trips people up.
Proof of identity. A government ID, photographed so it can actually be read.
A bank account in the same name. This is where your money goes, and the name on it has to match the name on the ID.
Why the name has to match
Because a payout account that cannot be proved to belong to you is precisely how money disappears from a marketplace — somebody verifies as themselves and points the payouts at an account that is not theirs.
It protects your buyers from an impostor using your shop's name, and it protects you from anybody redirecting your money.
What is not asked for
No company registration. No GST number to open a store. No shop lease, no stock list, no references.
If something claiming to be Metzee asks you for more than the above, it is not us.
Questions people ask
Can the bank account be in my husband's or father's name?
No. It has to be in the name that was verified. This is the single most common reason a payout fails later.
Do I need a GST number?
Not to open a store. Whether your own turnover requires registration is a question for an accountant, not for us.
Do I need a company?
No. Individuals sell here, and most do.
What if my ID and bank name differ slightly?
A middle name or an initial is usually fine. A different person is not. If you are unsure, send it and we will tell you.
Next: how long verification takes, or how to open a store.
