Most of this site explains what is covered. This page is the other half, because a marketplace that implies it protects you from everything is lying about at least one thing.
We do not authenticate items
We check the seller, not the stock. For categories where fakes are a real problem the judgement is yours — ask them to show the tells on camera, and treat a refusal to show as an answer.
What we do have is a counterfeits policy and a route to report one. What we do not have is somebody examining every item before it sells.
We do not value things
What something is worth is what the room pays for it. We do not appraise, estimate, or tell a seller their reserve is too high.
We do not mediate taste
If an item is exactly what was shown and you do not like it, that is not a fault. A seller who did what they said is owed their money. Change-of-mind returns depend on the item and the listing says which.
We cannot help with a deal taken off Metzee
Not out of spite — there is simply nothing to act on. No held money, no order, no record of what was promised. The fuller explanation.
We do not act as your accountant or your lawyer
Tax questions, licensing questions, whether you need to register — those depend on your own circumstances and we are not able to answer them for you.
What we do do
Hold the money until the item arrives. Verify who a seller is. Answer a dispute. Remove sellers who break the rules. All of it here.
Questions people ask
Does Metzee own what is being sold?
No. You are buying from the seller; we run the room, hold the money and settle disputes.
Does Metzee check items before they sell?
No — the seller, not the stock.
Will you tell me if something is genuine?
No. We will act on a report, and the money is held meanwhile.
Why say all this out loud?
Because a limit you discover during a dispute feels like a trick, and a limit you read beforehand is just information.
More: is Metzee safe.
