My payout failed

Almost always the name, the account number or the IFSC. The money is not lost — it is waiting.

First: the money is not lost. A failed payout returns and waits for correct details.

The three causes

The name does not match. The account has to be in the name you verified. This is the commonest one by a distance, and it fails every time until it is fixed rather than failing intermittently.

A wrong account number. Usually a transposed digit. Read it back against your passbook rather than against what you typed.

A wrong IFSC. People copy their branch's general code rather than the one their account actually uses. Check it on a cheque or in your banking app.

Less common

A closed or dormant account. An account that cannot receive transfers of that type.

What to do

Correct the details and it retries on the next cycle. You do not need to ask for the money to be resent.

How to not have this happen

Get it right on day one. Setting up payouts takes two minutes before your first show and saves a bad Monday afterwards.

Questions people ask

How long before it retries?

The next payout cycle after the details are corrected.

Will I be told why it failed?

Yes, as specifically as the bank tells us.

Can I change the bank account?

Yes, with re-verification. Do it when nothing is in flight.

Why does my balance show the money when the bank does not?

That is the gap between a balance and a transfer. What the balance is.

Next: setting up payouts, when do I get paid.
