Individual used clothing is usually worth less than people expect, and a well-sorted lot is usually worth more.
What moves the number
Fabric — natural fibres and heavier cloth hold value.
Condition at the cuffs, collar, hems and underarms.
Measurements, because a measured garment sells higher than a sized one.
Alterations, which change what the label means.
Brand, which matters least of these in most of the category and most in a narrow part of it.
Why two of the same differ
One listing has a tape across the chest on camera and a note of the composition label. The other says "size L, good condition". Describing menswear.
How to find out rather than guess
Compare completed sales in the same measurements and condition. Sizes are not comparable across makers, so measurements are the only honest basis.
And do not compare against retail. The room is pricing a used garment.
When a lot is worth more than the pieces
Almost always, for everyday clothing — as long as the lot is one size. "Five shirts, all 52cm chest flat, all described" is a sellable item. A mixed bundle is not.
Questions people ask
Does washing raise the price?
It raises the chance of selling. Wash by the care label and say that you did.
Is a branded piece worth a lot second-hand?
Only in a few parts of the category, and only where condition is good and you can say where it came from.
What about things with small stains?
Show them and price for them. Found stains cost the whole sale.
