Delivering furniture and homeware: courier, local or collection

A wardrobe is not a parcel. Decide which half of this category you are in before the show.

This category splits cleanly, and the mistake is treating the second half like the first.

Small homeware

Ceramics, glass, lamps, frames, textiles. Courier, well padded, double-boxed where fragile. A weight rule works, and the usual rules about glass apply: do not post it in a frame.

Furniture

Not a packing problem — a delivery decision made before the show:

  • Collection, agreed before bidding, with a collect-by date
  • Your own delivery, if you offer it and can actually do it
  • Buyer arranges, which puts the choice with the person who knows their own stairs
  • Courier, only if you have checked they will take the size and the weight

Setting up delivery covers how to put that on a listing; each item picks its own option.

Say it in the listing

A buyer who has not thought about collection bids as though delivery is free. One line in the first paragraph — collection only from X — prevents the whole problem.

Collect-by terms

Set a window you can live with: 72 hours unless you change it, with a six-hour floor and a 336-hour ceiling. If it is not collected, the store keeps a share — 7% by default, 20% at most. Say the terms in the show. How pickup works.

Combining wins

Homeware combines. Furniture does not. Set what each later win adds with the larger item in mind.

Questions people ask

Should I dismantle before delivery?

Say whether you will, bag and label every fixing, and include instructions.

Can I charge for my own delivery?

Yes — set it as a rate on the zones you actually serve.

What about plants?

Many couriers will not carry them. Collection or local delivery.
