The app is using a lot of storage

It is browser cache, and clearing it is safe — with one thing to know first.

Metzee runs in your phone’s browser, so what is taking up space is your browser's cache of images and video it has already loaded.

Photographs of items, show thumbnails and video segments all get kept so the next visit is faster. On a phone that watches a lot of shows, that accumulates.

Clearing it is safe

Nothing of yours is stored on the device. Your account, orders, bids, wins, saved items and credits all live on the server. Clearing browser storage cannot delete any of it.

So the honest answer is: clear it freely. In your phone’s settings, under the browser, clear its cache. You do not need to clear "all site data" for that.

The one thing to know first

Clearing site data signs you out. Cache and site data are different things: cache is images and video, site data includes the token that keeps you signed in.

Clear the cache and you stay signed in. Clear site data, or use "clear browsing data" with everything ticked, and you will be signed back out — which is fine, but you will need a code to get back in. I was signed out for no reason

So if you are in the middle of a show with a bid running, do it afterwards.

What to do if you are short of space

In order of how much they recover:

  1. Clear the browser cache. Usually the largest single thing on a phone that watches video.
  2. Close old tabs. Each one holds its own memory.
  3. Check your phone’s storage screen, which tells you what is actually using space rather than what you suspect. Photographs and video you took yourself are nearly always the real answer.

What is not using your storage

Items you saved, your order history, and your credits. Those are on your account, which is why they follow you to a new phone.

When the app ships

A native app will store some things on the device by design — cached images, and a little data to work offline. It will appear in your phone’s app storage with the usual clear-cache option, and the same rule will apply: cache is safe to clear, data signs you out.

No app is available yet, and nothing you install from an app store today is us. Do I need the app?

More: the app is draining my battery, the app says I must update, video is buffering.
