Does Metzee have a dark mode?

Metzee is dark, everywhere, always. There is no light theme, no switch, and nothing that follows your system setting.

One look, on the web and in the Android app when it ships. A light theme and its switches existed once and were removed.

Why

Because the product is built around live video of objects, and a dark interface is the right frame for that. A bright white surround next to a video of a saree fights the thing you are trying to look at; a dark one disappears around it.

It is the same reason cinemas are dark and galleries paint the walls neutral. The interface is not the subject.

A single theme also means every screen is designed and tested once rather than twice, which for a small team is the difference between two looks done properly and two done adequately.

So if your system is set to light

Metzee will still be dark. That is not a bug and there is nothing to fix.

If dark is hard for you to read

That is a real accessibility issue and worth saying rather than working around:

• Your phone’s own accessibility settings can help — increased contrast, bold text, and larger text all work on Metzee because the layout scales with system text size. The text is too small to read
• Your browser's reader mode, on a listing page, will give you plain text at whatever size and colour you prefer. It will not work on a live show, which is video.
• Report it. If specific screens are genuinely unreadable rather than merely dark, that is worth telling us — low-contrast text on a dark ground is a bug we can fix, and a screenshot is what makes it fixable.

What you can change

Not the theme, but two things on the same preferences screen that people are often looking for when they come here:

• Language & display — the language the app is shown in, and how dates and numbers are formatted. How to change your language
• Default sort — how listings are ordered for you by default.

If a screen looks wrong rather than dark
