Nobody came to my first show

That is the normal first show. Three things change it, and none of them is paid promotion.

Four people came and two of them were your family. That is a normal first show — not a bad sign, and not a reason to stop.

Nobody arrives at a first show because nobody knows it is happening. That is a distribution problem, not a judgement about you or your stock.

Run it anyway

The most important thing about a first show is that it happened. Four people is four people more than a cancelled show, and shows that run build the followers who come to the next one.

Cancelling because the room is thin is the one move that makes the second show worse than the first. Can I cancel a scheduled show?

The three things that change it

In order of how much they matter, and none of them costs money.

1. Bring your own people. This is most of it. One message to the people who already buy from you — on WhatsApp, Instagram, at your market stall, in a parcel insert — outperforms anything else available in your first month. A hundred people who already trust you beat a thousand strangers.

Share your store gives you the link and a QR code for exactly this. How to bring an existing shop onto Metzee

2. Schedule, and schedule in advance. A show announced a few days out reaches your followers and gets a countdown people can set a reminder on. One you start without scheduling has neither. The countdown is a promise, so start on time. How to schedule a show

3. Be regular. The same night every week, for six weeks. People cannot form a habit around an unpredictable schedule, and a store with a slot people know is worth more than a store with better stock and no rhythm. Repeat Show sets it up once.

What to fix on the show itself

Start immediately. Most of the people who leave a show leave in the first minute, and they leave because nothing is happening. Have the first item in your hand and running. How to go live

Have enough items. Twenty-five to forty for an hour. A show that runs out in fifteen minutes cannot hold anybody. How many items should a show have?

Say when the next one is, at the end, while the people who stayed are still there. That single sentence is the most valuable thing in the whole show. How to end a show properly

What not to do yet

Do not buy promotion. A boost multiplies whatever your show already is — and a multiplier on a weak show is a weak show with a bill attached. Get the first three right, then consider it. How to boost a show

Do not drop your prices to nothing. A cheap first week teaches the people who did come to wait for cheap. Price as you mean to price.

Do not conclude anything from one show. Six shows is a signal. One is weather.

The honest timeline

A month to a steady small room, if you do the three things. The variable that moves it most is the first one — whether you brought your own people — and that is entirely in your hands.
