How long does a refund take?

Two legs, and only one of them is ours. Honest timings for each.

A refund has two legs and they fail for different reasons. Knowing which one you are waiting on tells you whether asking helps.

Leg one: being issued

Instant to a couple of days, depending on who has to act.

  • A seller marking a refund on an online payment — the money is reversed through the gateway when they confirm. Nothing further is needed from them.
  • A return — the seller has 48 hours to answer the request, and then it depends on the item going back and arriving.
  • A cancelled unshipped order — Metzee is holding the money and sends it back without the seller doing anything.

This is the leg where asking helps. If the order does not show as refunded, nothing has been sent and the seller is the person to ask.

Leg two: reaching you

Usually 5–7 working days. The app states it on the order: Goes back the way you paid, usually within 5–7 working days.

Nothing on Metzee's side speeds this up. It is the gateway and your bank, and it is the same timing you would get anywhere.

This is the leg where asking does not help — not us, anyway. After a week your bank can see the incoming credit.

By method

  • Card — back to the same card. Often appears as a separate credit rather than the original debit disappearing, which is why people miss it.
  • UPI — back to the account that paid.
  • Net banking or wallet — back to the source.
  • Cash on delivery — different: there is no card payment to reverse, so the seller pays you back directly by UPI, bank transfer or cash. If that has not arrived, the seller is who to ask.
  • Metzee Credits used on an order — there is no card payment behind that portion.

A partial refund

Less than you paid, by design — a flaw not worth returning the whole item over. The order shows the amount. Can I get a partial refund?

What to check, in order

  1. The order — does it say refunded, and for how much?
  2. Your statement, on and after that date — look for a credit, not a vanishing debit.
  3. Then ask: the seller if it was never issued, your bank if it was.

My refund has not arrived

The case that is not a refund

A hold from an abandoned payment attempt is not a refund and nobody issued it. It reverses on its own in a few working days. I think I was charged twice
