Pending means a payment was started and Metzee has not been told the outcome. It is a question, not an answer — and most of them answer themselves within minutes.
The one thing not to do
Do not pay again. That is how one pending payment becomes two charges, and the second one then has to be refunded.
Check the order first. It takes five seconds and it answers the question completely.
How to read it

Paid— done. The pending line on your bank statement is the authorisation and it settles. - Order shows
Awaiting paymentorNot paid yet— Metzee has not received a confirmation. The payment is either still completing or will reverse. - Your bank shows a hold but the order is unpaid — that is an authorisation without a capture, and it falls off by itself. I think I was charged twice
How long to wait
Thirty minutes. That is how long Metzee treats an unfinished attempt as still in flight, and it is also the window after which an unpaid order is cleared away.
Within that half hour, a pending payment is normal and needs nothing from you.
Why the row exists before the money
Because the row is what the payment is matched back to. Every money path writes the order first and the payment arrives against it.
That design is also why pending is common and harmless: an abandoned payment sheet, a UPI app that never came back, a dismissed browser tab — each leaves a row that was a question nobody answered.
If the window is closing
Do not sit and wait on a pending payment with four minutes left. Check the order; if it is still unpaid, pay by a different method. Card or net banking rather than the UPI attempt that is hanging.
A duplicate payment gets refunded. A missed window costs you the item and a strike, and cannot be undone. The arithmetic is not close. I missed the time to pay
For a cash-on-delivery order
Those are placed as confirmed work rather than pending, so a COD order should not sit in a pending state. If one does, that is worth raising.
When to raise it
Your order unpaid, money gone from your account, more than a day later. Raise it from the order with the amount and the date. Payment failed
