Two entries on your statement are not always two payments. Most of the time one of them is a hold that will disappear on its own.
Authorisation and capture
A card payment happens in two steps. Your bank first authorises — sets the money aside and shows it on your statement — and the money is only actually taken when the payment is captured.
An attempt that was abandoned or failed after authorisation leaves the first half without the second. It looks exactly like a charge. It is not one, and it reverses by itself.
How to tell which you are looking at
Check your order. If you have one paid order and two entries on your statement, you were charged once. The second entry is a hold.
If you have two paid orders for the same item, that is a genuine double payment and it gets refunded.
Your orders list is the authority here, not the bank statement. The statement shows attempts; the order shows payments.
What makes a hold appear
- Starting a payment and closing the app or dismissing the sheet
- A UPI app that opened and never came back
- A 3-D Secure page that timed out
- Several quick retries after a decline — each can leave its own hold
Metzee treats an unfinished attempt as still in flight for thirty minutes and then stops counting it, which is roughly when the app gives up on it too. Your bank's own hold may linger a little longer.
How long a hold takes to clear
A few working days, depending on your bank. Nothing is required from you, and nothing Metzee does makes it faster — the reversal is between the gateway and your bank.
When to chase it
If the money is still showing after a week, and your orders list shows one paid order, contact your bank with the date and amount. They can see the authorisation and release it.
If you genuinely have two paid orders, raise it from the order and it is refunded. How refunds work.
What not to do meanwhile
Do not pay again to "make sure". That is how one hold becomes two. Check the order first — it takes five seconds and answers the question completely.
More: payment failed, my refund has not arrived, how we handle your money.
