The code arrives on WhatsApp, to the number you entered. The screen tells you which channel it used: Code sent on {channel} to +91 {phone}.
SMS is not switched on yet. It needs a registration with the telecom regulator that is not complete, so no text message is sent at all — checking your SMS inbox will find nothing, however long you wait.
That is worth knowing before you spend ten minutes looking in the wrong place.
So check WhatsApp
Specifically:
- The right number. The code goes to the number you typed, not the one WhatsApp is registered to on that phone if they differ.
- Archived chats, and the "message requests" or unknown-sender area. A first message from a business account sometimes lands outside the main list.
- That WhatsApp is actually connected. No data, no message.
The number format
Ten digits, Indian, no country code and no spaces — Enter your 10-digit mobile number. The +91 is added for you, which is why typing it yourself breaks it.
The resend
There is a wait before you can ask again — New code in 0:{s} counts it down. Didn’t get it? is the way to request another once it has.
Do not request five in a row. Each new code invalidates the one before, so somebody typing the first code after requesting a third will be told it is wrong. Request one, wait, use the one that arrives last.
If WhatsApp will not work for you
Two other ways in, and both are on the sign-in screen:
Email and password. Create an account with an email, and the code comes to your inbox — Check your spam or promotions folder, or send it again. Note that a code to an email is a different mechanism from the transactional emails the app sends, which are a separate thing and not switched on.
Continue with Google, if you have a Google account.
Either avoids the phone channel entirely, which is the practical answer if you are on a phone without WhatsApp.
If nothing works at all
Email support@metzee.com with the number you are trying, and do not include a code in the message.
What a code is never for
Nobody will ever ask you to read a code out — not Metzee, not a seller. A code is how you sign in. Anyone asking for one is trying to sign in as you.
