What a seller is agreeing to

Six obligations and three protections. The ones that bite are measured rather than written.

Opening a store is agreeing to the same terms as everybody else, plus the seller sections. Here is what that actually commits you to.

The six obligations

1. Ship within your stated dispatch time. You set it; you are held to it. Your dispatch deadline

2. Keep stock accurate. Selling something you cannot send is a cancellation, and a cancellation counts. I sold something I cannot send

3. Describe items accurately. A claim in the listing — or said out loud in a show — is what a dispute is decided on. What if the seller lied about the item?

4. Answer buyers promptly, including returns. An unanswered return freezes that order's money and counts against you.

5. Hold a tax identity, and account for your own sales tax. Do I need to charge GST on what I sell?

6. Honour the floor on returns. Your policy is yours, but damaged, faulty, wrong or not as described comes back for 7 days whatever you wrote. How to set your return policy

The three protections

Your money is held, then paid. Earnings become available after delivery and a short hold, to your verified account. When do I get paid?

A reserve means you never have to sell below a price — set beforehand, never shown to buyers. What is a reserve price?

Nobody can bid on your items as you, and buyers who do not pay collect strikes rather than costing you the item quietly. Can a seller bid on their own items?

What bites, and it is not the written rules

The measured standards. Cancellation rate, defect rate, reply time and the rest are running averages, and they move your store's standing without anybody writing to you about it.

A seller who reads the terms carefully and ignores those is watching the wrong thing. Strikes for sellers

What you are not agreeing to

Exclusivity. Sell wherever else you like.

A minimum. No quota, no fee for a quiet month, no deadline by which you must sell. What happens if I stop selling for a while?

Letting anybody reach your payouts. Not even a team member — no role carries the money. Getting someone to help run your store
