Sometimes. Cash on delivery exists on Metzee, but it is narrower than most people assume.
Where it exists
On a buy-now listing, where the store has switched it on, you are within their courier's reach, and a few other conditions are met. At checkout you would see it offered, with Collect {amount} in cash when it’s delivered and a cash-on-delivery fee added.
Where it does not
Never on an auction win. Also never on a live-show item, never on an offer you made, and never on a made-to-order piece.
This is not a seller-by-seller thing you can ask about. It is how the option works, and no store can enable it for a win.
Why an auction cannot work that way
Because the item is held for you the moment you win, and the under-bidder is still waiting.
A cash order is only settled when the parcel reaches you — days later. For an auction that would mean the seller holding the item, refusing the under-bidder, dispatching at their own cost, and finding out a week later whether the sale was real. Nobody would run a show on those terms.
Paying at checkout is what makes a thirty-minute window reasonable for both sides: you commit, and the seller can pack immediately.
The other conditions, for buy-now
Even on a buy-now listing it is not always there. The store has to have it on, the platform has to have it enabled, the store must not already be owing too much from previous cash orders, the delivery has to be by courier, the order has to be under a ceiling — and you have to have had a prepaid order delivered before.
That last one is worth knowing: cash on delivery is not available on a brand-new account's first purchase. It is extended to buyers with a record.
If a seller offers to take cash another way
Do not. Paying outside Metzee removes every protection either of you has — no buyer protection, no dispute, no record, no refund route. It is the commonest way buyers lose money here.
Anyone pressing for it is a reason to report them rather than to agree. Why off-platform deals are risky, how to report a seller or listing
For collection orders
A pickup order is already paid before you collect. You are handing over a code and taking goods, not buying at the gate. Nobody should be asking you for money at handover. How to collect an order
What to use instead
UPI, for almost everyone — one tap, already on your phone, and instant enough for a short payment window. Cards, net banking and wallets also work, and Metzee Credits count toward a payment if you have any. How to pay
More: can I pay by card, can I pay later, how we handle your money.
