A declined card is usually a rule at your bank, not a problem with the card or with Metzee. Metzee never sees the decline reason in detail — the bank tells the gateway, and the gateway tells us only that it failed.
Do this first, if a timer is running
Pay by UPI instead. The payment window on a win does not pause while you argue with a bank, and UPI from an Indian account is the most reliable route there is.
Sort the card out afterwards. Losing the win to a bank rule is the expensive outcome.
The usual causes
An online-transaction block. Many cards ship with e-commerce or international use switched off. Your bank's app has a toggle for it.
A daily or per-transaction limit. Common on debit cards, and often lower than people think. Also in the bank's app.
A 3-D Secure step that timed out. You were sent to your bank's verification page, it was slow, and the window closed. A straight retry often works.
An expired card, or a mistyped detail. Worth one careful look before blaming anything else.
An international card. Metzee is built for India — payment, delivery and GST all assume it — and a card issued outside India may be refused by the gateway. UPI from an Indian account is the way around it.
The retry that works
- Try once more. Genuinely — a timed-out verification step often passes on the second attempt.
- If it fails again, switch method rather than retrying a third time. Repeated failures on one card sometimes trip a fraud rule and make the next attempt worse.
- Pay by UPI, finish the order, then fix the card at your leisure.
What never helps
Retrying five times in a row. Each attempt can create a short-lived hold at your bank, which looks alarming on your statement and reverses on its own — see I think I was charged twice.
Waiting for Metzee to fix it. We cannot authorise a payment your bank refused. There is nothing on our side to change.
If money left your account and the order still says unpaid
Different problem, and it does get resolved. Payment failed.
