A UPI request that expires without being approved takes nothing. If you did approve it and then the screen timed out, that is a different and more worrying case — and it is usually still fine.
Case one: you did not approve it
Nothing left your account. The request expired. You can simply pay again.
Case two: you approved it and the screen timed out
The money may have left and the confirmation may not have arrived back at Metzee. Do not pay again until you have checked.
Check your order. If it shows Paid, the payment landed and the screen was just slow — you are done.
If it still shows Awaiting payment or Not paid yet, and your bank shows money gone, that is a payment that will either complete or reverse on its own.
Why it resolves itself
Metzee writes the order before the money arrives — the row is the thing a payment is matched back to. An attempt that never completes is treated as still in flight for thirty minutes, and after that an unpaid order is cleared.
So one of two things happens: the confirmation arrives late and the order completes, or the attempt is abandoned and your bank reverses the debit. Either way no action is needed from you in the first half hour.
How long the reversal takes
A few working days for the bank leg, which is the part nobody here controls. The debit may also show as a separate credit coming back rather than the original line disappearing — which is why people miss it. I think I was charged twice
Should you try again?
If the order shows unpaid and the window is still open: yes, but check first. A quick look at the order tells you whether to risk a second attempt.
If you have minutes left: pay again by a different method — card or net banking rather than UPI — so you are not repeating the thing that just failed. Two payments is a refundable problem; a missed window is a strike. I missed the time to pay
If the window has closed: the item has gone to the under-bidder and you cannot pay late. If money did leave, it comes back. What happens if I don't pay
If money left and nothing resolves
After a week, with your order showing unpaid and the debit still on your statement, raise it with the order number and the date. That is a real case and it does get sorted. Payment failed
What makes this less likely
Approve in the UPI app and come straight back to Metzee. The timeout is usually the return trip rather than the payment.
